The challenge

Rooftop air-handling equipment at Saudi Arabian Industrial & Trading had left rust around the curb bases, where condensate and rain sit against the metal. Support frames bolted through the roof, the ridge line and the end laps were adding further leak paths.

What ETCE did

ETCE cleaned the corroded curb bases and sealed them with EPDM turned up the equipment face. Support-frame bases were flashed individually, the ridge line received twin EPDM runs, end laps were closed and exposed screw heads were spot-sealed across the roof.

Failure points treated on this roof

• Roof hoods, cowls & AHU curbs

  Exhaust hoods, cowl vents and equipment curbs sealed where they sit on the roof.

• Rust & corroded sheet treatment

  Corroded areas cleaned back and covered with EPDM before they perforate.

• Ridge & valley lines

  Ridge caps and slope junctions covered with wide EPDM runs.

• End laps (horizontal joints)

  Horizontal sheet overlaps cleaned and closed with a continuous EPDM strip.

• Steel column & support penetrations

  Brackets, stanchions and support legs that pierce the roof sealed at the base.

• Screw heads & fasteners

  Loose or rusted fasteners tightened or replaced, and every screw head sealed.

Materials & method

• EPDM membrane (1.2 mm) cut to width for each detail: UV-stable and flexible at Gulf roof temperatures.
• Promax Bonding Adhesive, rated for surface temperatures up to 120°C, for a permanent bond to the metal sheets.
• Preparation first: old coatings, failed sealant and loose rust removed so the membrane bonds to sound metal.
• Roof-side, zone-by-zone execution so the building below keeps operating with no shutdown.
• Working-at-height HSE: trained crews, full PPE and safety lifelines on every roof.

The result

The corrosion around the equipment has been arrested and the roof's secondary leak points are sealed, without removing or relocating any rooftop plant.
