Napco Hygiene Products: Roof Penetration Waterproofing in Dammam

The challenge

At the Napco Hygiene Products facility the roof is pierced by vent pipes, twin process pipes and ducting. Each penetration had relied on sealant that had shrunk and cracked in the sun, leaving gaps around the pipes that water could run straight through.

What ETCE did

ETCE removed the failed sealant and built a bonded EPDM collar around each penetration, whether single pipes, paired pipes or duct elbows, shaping the membrane over the sheet ribs so there is no path for water around the base. Promax Bonding Adhesive keeps each collar attached even as the pipes expand with heat.

Failure points treated on this roof

• Pipe & cable penetrations

  Every pipe and cable through the roof or wall sealed with a bonded EPDM collar.

• Chimneys, ducts & exhaust stacks

  Round and square duct penetrations collared with EPDM and sealed to the roof.

Materials & method

• EPDM membrane (1.2 mm) cut to width for each detail: UV-stable and flexible at Gulf roof temperatures.
• Promax Bonding Adhesive, rated for surface temperatures up to 120°C, for a permanent bond to the metal sheets.
• Preparation first: old coatings, failed sealant and loose rust removed so the membrane bonds to sound metal.
• Roof-side, zone-by-zone execution so the building below keeps operating with no shutdown.
• Working-at-height HSE: trained crews, full PPE and safety lifelines on every roof.

The result

Every penetration on the roof now has a flexible, watertight seal, which matters for a facility producing hygiene products where water ingress is not an option.
