Salama Radiator Factory: Factory Roof Waterproofing in Dammam

The challenge

Radiator manufacturing needs ventilation, and the Salama factory roof is lined with cowl vents and exhaust hoods alongside skylights. Each of these openings is a joint between two materials that move differently in the heat, and each had started to leak.

What ETCE did

ETCE sealed the base of every cowl vent and exhaust hood with an EPDM flashing, sealed the skylights on all four sides, and covered the ridge and end laps with EPDM strips so the whole roof was treated to one standard.

Failure points treated on this roof

• Roof hoods, cowls & AHU curbs

  Exhaust hoods, cowl vents and equipment curbs sealed where they sit on the roof.

• Skylights

  Translucent sheets sealed on all four sides where they meet the metal roof.

• Ridge & valley lines

  Ridge caps and slope junctions covered with wide EPDM runs.

• End laps (horizontal joints)

  Horizontal sheet overlaps cleaned and closed with a continuous EPDM strip.

Materials & method

• EPDM membrane (1.2 mm) cut to width for each detail: UV-stable and flexible at Gulf roof temperatures.
• Promax Bonding Adhesive, rated for surface temperatures up to 120°C, for a permanent bond to the metal sheets.
• Preparation first: old coatings, failed sealant and loose rust removed so the membrane bonds to sound metal.
• Roof-side, zone-by-zone execution so the building below keeps operating with no shutdown.
• Working-at-height HSE: trained crews, full PPE and safety lifelines on every roof.

The result

The ventilation openings and skylights now stay watertight without restricting airflow, and the factory has a roof it can inspect and maintain easily.
